Morten Lassen artshow Galleri Hera November 2009

Morten himself, a very sympathetic person who shared his view on how he creates.

There are 20-30 layers of oil paint. He works on as much as up to 30 paintings at a time since the paint dries so slowly.

Good painting, bad painting?

When I was on vacation in Venice my oldest daughter who is an artlover, redecorated by haning down some paintings and put some new ones up. She framed some aquarelles that I did not like and was about to trow away when I made them. Seeing them now 2 years later and framed they are really okey, I like them. I trow less and less paintings away nowadays. I put them away and let them rest and see if I can get another angel on them later.

Punta della Dogana and Palazzo Grassi

We walked all around Dorsoduro as the sun set and ended up at Dogana when the sky was deep blue. The next day we visited the exhibition, the venue is fantastic and so was all the art. I enjoyed so much to see Cy Twombly. I just sat for a long time and just contemplated these amazing paintings.

We took a few hours to visit the Palazzo Grassi. I was impressed by this beautiful old Palazzo and the contrast of all this modern art inside and some outside. In the entrance this big peace with pop music bouncing the walls and a disco floor with a multitude of colors pulsating to the music, covering one big wall pictures of actors portaying nazis in different movies through time. Untitled (Dancing Nazis), 2008, by Piotr Uklanski.

There is so much art to see in Venice. Next time I go to Venice I will visit The Peggy Guggenhiem Collection and also see the art in the churches.

Venice biennale august 2009

I went there to visit the biennale and The Francois Pinault exhibitions. I thought before going it would not be possible to see both in 4 days, but it actually happened. Well, to be honest see many of the biennale exhibitions scattered around town we finally gave up in the heat to go to Arsenale and Giardini and decided to go to a cooler indoor place with less art to cover in less time. I looked forward so much to see one of my favorite artists Cy Twombly, with Mr. Pinault had the good taste of collecting quite a few number of.

I thought this was a young artist just to find out it was Argentinian Luis Felipe Noé, born in the 1930's.

This place was great, right at the Grand canale. A big rough room with big doors opening up to the canal. I would do anything to have a place like this to paint in. Iceland, The end, Ragnar Kjartansson.

Monaco, Le ciel regarde la terre, Philip Castor, at the Presidio Militare Caserma "Cornoldi". Big construction paintings in the court yard. Very impressive.

We saw so many more exhibitions sites but wanted to see even many more. The problem we met was that no matter how well we tried to follow the map it was very easy to get lost in the maze like winding streets of Venice. In the end we simply gave up.

I love this mans sensitivity

(The pic. is from www.aworldtowin.net)

The sensitivity the artist conveys has the power to touch the viewer and transport that person into another state of mind, touch feelings you rarely meet. Last night I went to one of the many summer open air park theaters that is on show every summer, for free. The play was "The lover" by Marguerite Duras. The actress really made her part to capture the full attention of everybody in the audience for 1,5 hours. It was a magical night, a magical play and a magical performance. IT WAS ART.

A love affair

(pic.from www.telegraph.co.uk)

I love these paintings by Cy Twombly. I shake and my heart pounds. This does not happen often with paintings, but this is love. I cannot wait to go to Venice in late august for more passion of contemporary art. Palazzo Grassi, Punta della Dogana and Venice biennial, here I come. I do not know how I will manage to make time for everything I want to see. Everything is ready to go, the hotel and flight are booked. I will check out as much as I possibly can before hand so that I can pick out what I really want to see but yet leave space for the unexpected.

Planning an art trip to Venice

Planning an art trip to Venice in the end of august with a good friend of mine. We are planning to visit La Bienalle di Venezia and Francois Pinault`s art collection at Palazzo Grassi and Punta Della Dogana. A lot of art in just a few days. I hope the venues have air condition and are not so crowded with tourists when the European vacation time is over. I long for more art inspiration.
